VIVEKANANDA INSTITUE OF VALUES, RAMAKRISHNA MISSION GURUGRAM
AWAKENING PROGRAM
Awakening is a unique Value Education initiative tailored for primary school children from Class 1 to Class 5. Its core objective is to instil essential values in young minds, empowering them to embrace these principles voluntarily. This, in turn, equips them to navigate life’s challenges more effectively as they mature. Spearheaded by the Ramakrishna Mission, Delhi, Awakening is presently overseen by the Vivekananda Institute of Values (VIVA) based in Gurgaon.
Since its inception in 2022, Awakening has made significant strides. A total of 857 teachers have undergone training to become program facilitators, representing 123 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) nationwide. Among them, 22 teachers from KV NSG Manesar in the Gurugram region have been actively involved. During the VIVA resource persons’ visit to the Vidyalaya, they received a warm welcome from the stakeholders at the Vidyalaya, and an overwhelmingly positive response from both the students and their facilitators. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, and it was evident that the values instilled through the Awakening program were resonating deeply within the school community.
In the academic year 2023-24, the initiative expanded its reach. A further 147 teachers from 29 additional Vidyalayas in the Gurugram region received training on 20th January, 2024. Notably, this training session marked a milestone as it was the inaugural program of value education held at the VIVA premises within the Ramakrishna Mission Gurugram. The workshop commenced with an inauguration by Shri Bhupesh Bhatt, Assistant Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Gurugram region, and was guided by Revered Swami Shantatmananda Ji, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Gurugram and the program’s head. Throughout the day-long workshop, the VIVA trainers and resource persons provided comprehensive training sessions, focusing on value pedagogy, facilitation practices, and distributed the program content and manuals.
With the groundwork laid, the facilitators are poised to initiate the program in the upcoming academic year 2024-25. VIVA resource persons will offer continuous support through online enabling sessions and in-person assistance, ensuring effective implementation of the program within their respective Vidyalayas.
